We've enjoyed taking our daughter to the Butterfly House in Faust Park since she was very young. When you enter the facility you are presented with the exhibit hall which features live insects and displays about invertebrates. There's a movie in a small theater to watch about butterflies, and a small childrens area at the back of the exhibit hall with a childrens butterfly movie and a few puzzles and toys. The indoor butterfly conservatory features 60 different species of butterflies flying amongst tropical plants. It's always warm inside the butterfly house - after 10-15 minutes it's simply to hot to spend any more time in the conservatory. The butterflies fly freely around the conservatory and sometimes even land on you! You have to tread carefully along the paths to make sure you do not step on any butterflies. Near the end is a glass window where you can watch butterflies emerging from their cocoons.

The Butterfly House is $6 for general admission, $5 seniors 65 & over, $4 children 3-12, and free for children 2 & under. Missouri Botanical Garden members are always free. St. Louis County residents enjoy FREE Butterfly House admission from 9 to 11 a.m. on the first Tuesday of every month! Please present valid proof of residence to receive free admission.

Throughout 2014, the Butterfly House is host to one of the 250 fiberglass cakes that have been placed around St. Louis in honor of St. Louis' 250th birthday! This art installation is called the "Cakeway to the West."
