Iron Spike Model Train Museum, Washington

Location: 1498 High St, Washington, MO 63090

This museum opened in April 2016. Admission is $5 per person and veterans are free.
Hours are Friday: 1:00 PM - 6:00 PM, Saturday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM, Sunday: 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM

They also have a punch card program where you can earn a free admission after so many visits.

We went on a Saturday and the staff was very accommodating.  In the main room is a large model train and a smaller one that they will teach you to operate. Here she is teaching my son how to back the engine up and couple it with the green box car. He had a blast operating it!

Main entrance model train layout

Right off to the side of the main train room is this kids area with 2 train tables and chairs for adults.

If you want to see more model trains you can head down the hallway to the back warehouse area. It's not finished yet but it's impressive! It's not air conditioned either but they had several fans going.

Love the old train station bench

The whole mountain scene in the back is a recreation of a photo a man took in Colorado. He was so taken with the mountain view he decided to recreate it here.

The great thing about this not being finished is that you can watch them create the layouts with foam board and wood. I always wondered how they did it!

Most of their trains are HO and N scale. The volunteers were all incredibly knowledgeable about trains and shared their enthusiasm with the kids. We can't wait to go back!
